Description
Clearomizer CE5 – Legacy Top-Coil System (Archive Entry)
Archive Status: This product is preserved for historical and technical documentation purposes within the Vape Museum collection. It represents one of the early-generation clearomizer platforms widely used in Ireland and across the EU.
The CE5 clearomizer was a refillable top-coil tank system designed for standard eGo-style batteries. It typically featured a replaceable coil head positioned at the top of the central chimney structure and utilised long silica wicks for liquid transport.
CE5 systems played a significant role in early refillable vaping hardware development before the widespread adoption of bottom-coil and sub-ohm tank technologies.
Technical Overview
| Component | Specification | Operational Context |
|---|---|---|
| Tank Capacity | Approx. 1.6ml – 2.4ml (model dependent) | Pre-TPD and early TPD retail formats |
| Coil Position | Top-Coil | Warmer vapour, gravity-dependent wicking |
| Wick Material | Silica wick strands | Long exposed wick arms inside tank |
| Resistance Range | Typically 1.8Ω – 2.4Ω | Designed for low-wattage MTL use |
| Connection Type | eGo / 510 thread (model dependent) | Compatible with early eGo batteries |
| Filling Method | Top-fill (unscrew mouthpiece) | Manual refill design |
Operational Characteristics (Historical Context)
- Required periodic tilting to maintain wick saturation.
- More sensitive to high-VG liquids due to silica wicking limitations.
- Produced warmer vapour compared to bottom-coil systems.
- Increased risk of dry hits if wick saturation was insufficient.
Platform Evolution
CE5 clearomizers were gradually replaced by bottom-coil clearomizers (e.g., BCC systems) and later by sub-ohm tanks using organic cotton wicking. The shift improved liquid delivery efficiency, airflow stability and flavour consistency.
Regulatory & Market Context – Ireland
CE5 systems were commonly sold in Ireland prior to and during the early implementation phase of EU TPD regulations. Later market transitions standardised tank capacities to 2ml for nicotine-containing liquid systems under Irish and EU compliance rules (18+ only).
